SUPERVISOR, FLIGHT TRAINING PROGRAM
75% time/11-month term
Monday – Friday; 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM with variable hours as needed

OVERVIEW
Supervises all aspects of the Flight Training Program under the general supervision of the Aeronautics Department Chair and the Dean/Associate Dean of Technology and Health. Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the flight school and flight simulators, maintains safety and assures adherence to the FAA Federal Aviation regulations, Transportation Security Administration requirements, and Mt. San Antonio College policies and procedures.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise tasks and duties pertaining to all aspects of the conduct of the Flight Training Program including operations, equipment maintenance, contract maintenance, vendors, and on campus flight simulators.
Provide leadership, training, and direction to staff, contractors and program participants.
Act as a liaison between the Flight Training instructional staff and the Aeronautics Department.
Supervise instructional and student staff, including development and oversight of work schedule and performance.
Make recommendations on new sources of funding and write proposals as appropriate.
Serve as initial contact regarding student disciplinary issues occurring through the Flight Training Program.
Coordinate student orientations, maintain online scheduling system, verify fuel usage, and maintain student records.
Plan, develop, organize, and coordinate training manuals, training syllabi, and other training materials for students and staff, and establish guidelines for standardization of instruction and training for all staff.
Make recommendations to Aeronautics Department Chair on facility, aircraft, and other training needs.
Keep staff and Aeronautics Department updated on new regulations, new training techniques, and changes in flight training requirements.
Assist the Aeronautics Department Chair on selection of staff and contractors.
Perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
Principles of training, supervision, and performance evaluation.
Local, State, and federal laws and regulations applicable to the assigned functions.
Practices and procedures of maintaining student records according to legal requirements.
Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to individuals and large groups.
Effective flight training methods for FAA Part 61 flight schools.
Skills & Abilities to:
Supervise, train, and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel.
Work independently at a variety of tasks to meet schedules and deadlines.
Maintain the security of confidential information.
Operate computers and related software.
Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with others.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
A.A. or A.S. Degree required and two (2) years experience teaching and/or supervising flight training related areas. Must hold a current FAA Certificated Instrument Flight Instructor rating for airplanes.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree
LICENSES & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
FAA Certificated Instrument Flight Instructor rating for airplanes.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Any provisional offer of employment is dependent upon the candidate's successful completion of their fingerprint clearance prior to the start of employment. Additionally, the cost of the fingerprint clearance will be borne by the candidate.
SELECTION PROCEDURE
A screening committee will evaluate applicants, taking into account the breadth and depth of relevant education, training, experience, skills, knowledge, and abilities. Selected applicants will be invited for an interview. (Costs reimbursed up to $500 per candidate for over 150 miles one-way). Each candidate interviewed will be asked to complete a writing assignment one hour prior to the scheduled interview. The screening committee will recommend finalists to the College President. Preferred beginning date of employment to be determined.
SALARY & BENEFITS
This position is contingent on conditional funding and prorated at 75% time, 11-month term.
Salary Range: S-9; $56,603 - $62,914
The District contributes $6,555 to medical, dental, vision and life insurance coverage. Lifetime medical benefits are provided for eligible retirees.
The District participates in the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS) and State Teachers' Retirement System (STRS) retirement programs.
