I will not claim to know as

I will not claim to know as much as I should in this area. I know that outsourcing maintenance to some countries has created a bit of questionable maintenance practices, but I am not sure to what extent that is. Maintenance management is not about outsourcing, but more about bringing the proper maintenance sources together with less down time, less rework and less property damage to aircraft caused by internal sources. On a scale of 0 to 100, where do you draw your profit margin expectations? Where on that same scale are you actually hitting? If I were to choose 85% as my profit margin, meaning that my parts & labor fell at 85% of what was quoted, then I am doing well, but if I am hitting 100%, I may just be breaking even after the expenses of opening shop and paying labor. That 15% actual profit margin is my bread and butter, and puts me on a trail to success. This is why we have to not only look at maintenance management, but internal cost savings as well. We aren't afraid to pay experienced personnel an experienced wage, but someone fresh in the door will be paid accordingly. We are almost certain to take a loss on a new guy because of his lack of experience. He will take more time to do the job as we train him or her to perform to expectations. This all takes time, and time is money. Maintenance management cannot really be limited to its name sake. You have to look at everything else that ties it all together from the technician on the floor to the parts guys as well as the sales reps, or you may find yourself struggling to stay afloat.
